Snowing again, temp at 3C and falling.

Sometimes I fail to understand why I live in this country.

One more step in the right direction....

After five long years, the final payment for my car came out of my account today. Words cannot express how happy I am about this turn of events. My debt load has been cut in half, my budget has gained a considerable amount of breathing room and my only remaining debt is about two years worth of mortgage payments left on my house.

I am a happy man these days. I should be debt free by thirty six and since I don't have a wife and kids to spend my money on I might actually be able to afford a few toys or perhaps even a nice shack out in the woods somewhere.

And maybe, just maybe I will be able to retire early after all....

It's up.

Wild Rose Country, Chapter 20

Still not happy with it but I'm in way too deep on this one to re-write it now.

The good week continues...

...And WRC 20 is finally done. It's been what, a little over a year since the last chapter? Too damned long anyways.

Give me a week or so to let this one stew and I'll send it off to the editors for a final review. Then I'll see if I can remember how to update my website. :P

Now, it's hockey time.....

Feb. 26th, 2010

It has been a Good Week.

Got a considerable raise without asking for one, and was told I am a 'great asset' to the company. My busted ribs have finally healed to the point where I can function without pain and play hockey again. The weather has been wonderfully sunny and far warmer than normal for this time of year.

Canada absolutely wiped the floor with the Russians in Olympic hockey a couple of days ago much to the glee of home grown hockey nuts like me. Soon I shall off to a good friend's place for steaks, beer, and to watch the Canada - Slovakia semi-final game. Canada *should* win this game, but you never know. The Slovaks are a strong hockey team, but they are a bit lacking in depth when it comes to defence and I think think Canada will own them in their own end and pave the way for an absolutely epic Canada - U.S. gold medal game.

Avatar is one hell of a movie, and also happens to be the first movie I've seen in a theatre since 1998. The CG was so real it was uncanny and made up for the slightly predictable plot. This one is definitely on my list to see again.

I also seem to have one of strangest dogs in the world. Kato, for some reason known only to her, had a bit of a argument with the moon last night. Took me a couple of minutes to figure out what exactly she was all worked up about, and then I was laughing so hard that it was tough to breathe. Bark, bark, wooo-wooooo! then she'd chase her tail a few times and go back to barking and woo-wooing at the moon rising over the big spruce tree next door. Strangest thing I've seen in a while. I've no idea what she thought the moon was and what she thought it was going to do to her. She is nearly twelve years old, maybe she's losing her mind. Still, good entertainment.

Tomorrow will be spent on the ATV in the woods west of here with a couple of buddies. Sunday is reserved for the Olympic gold medal hockey game.

Go Canada!

I think life is out to get my these days. Two busted ribs from a wipeout and a high speed crash into the boards during hockey on Saturday.

Hurts to breathe...

Time to dust off and update the old resume, I think.

Is it possible to be bored and busy at the same time?

I have this week off from my regular day job and I'll admit that I'm not entirely sure what to do with myself. I hadn't expected the extra time off and it was rather short notice to plan anything so I've been hanging around the house for the most part. Some of you will no doubt be happy to hear that I have managed some writing in recent days and WRC 20 is finally approaching completion.

Weather has continued cold and snowy recently. We seem to be stuck in a rut that sees daytime high temperatures rarely climb above -15C. I'm doing my best to not let winter keep me inside and I have picked up a few days work with a buddy. Thing is, it's outdoor work with vinyl siding. Vinyl doesn't react well to cold temps and cutting it can be a bit of a headache as it cracks very easily if you're not careful. Still, it's work and since I'm otherwise not getting paid for this week, the extra cash is nice, even if it does mean cold fingers and toes for a few hours.

Things are well otherwise. The dogs are crazy as usual and quite enjoy the fresh snow and cold temps. Juneau is still growing like a weed and is now in the vicinity of eighty pounds at just shy of seven months old. She has found a new toy in the form of a lump of ice from her water dish which she pushes around the yard with her nose at breakneck speeds. Unfortunately she has also found great joy in digging. I caught her yesterday standing with all four feet in the fire pit and more ash outside of the fire pit than in. Wish I had the camera handy for that.

Time to go play in the snow...

More dog pics, just because I can.Collapse )
